Total Joint Replacement

This is my entry for
Sensational Haiku Wednesday

Body’s warranty

Expired at forty-five

Who knows what is next

Recall the kid’s song

Head, shoulders, knees and, yes, toes

Only in reverse

But let’s add one more

Chronic degeneration

X-rayed in right hip

The doctors have said:

“Have you had an injury

That bides a new hip?

You are much too young

But rehab will be a snap

For the same reason”

Now… four months later

I can walk one point five miles

Without discomfort

I descend the stairs

Like the average person

With ease, no distress

A corporal scar

Is the only reminder

Of lost meniscus

I’m truly grateful

For doctors, surgeons, pain pills

And new lease on life

Join the fun!

Untitled

Go the fuck away
I don't want you in my life
I like you too much

26 September 2010

How are you?

One

Listening to jazz.

Ignoring Sunday talk shows

and laundry basket

Two

Job search continues:

Three interviews, no offers

Hate those KSAs

Lead at Booz Allen:

Need to rewrite resume

For corporate guild

Three

Finally saw doc:

Says osteoarthritis

But doles out good meds

Four

Dead bolt lock broken:

Chair, propped against the doorknob,

Keeps bad guys at bay

Five

Cat sitting at Reid’s

Cable TV marathon,

Food on the barby

Six

And you my dear friend?

How is the world treating you?

Dreamt you bought new house

Incubus

Deeply personal
Do I dare share with others
Demons in my head

A beautiful morn
gives way to anxiety
not a cause in sight

The Song of Right and Wrong

Venom or support
Their words impact me wholly
Intentions unknown

I'm shot down in pain
The sting last forever more
Wounded; a slow death

Encouraging words
lift my spirits high, I soar
on gossamer wings

My dream: a sapling
needs to be nurtured to grow
tended carefully

Oh thank you my dear
you bring my heart such delight
on many levels

The Proctors

Hadn't given them
nary a thought in ages
Tales from my childhood

Our urban legend:
light-skinned, blue-eyed
married kith and kin

Comfort in Food

One
Weigh and pay for eggs
sausage, scrapple and home fries
Morning comfort food

Two
The tea's temp: just right
For today's chilly morning
Comfort in a cup
